The opportunity
We’d like to connect with independent developers who enjoy turning considered design into dependable digital experiences.
This is an ongoing expression of interest for freelance collaboration, rather than a vacancy with a confirmed start date. Work depends on the projects coming through the studio, so there may not be an immediate assignment. We’ll get in touch when your experience and availability line up with a brief.
Projects you could join
You could help build a new website, develop an e-commerce feature, connect services or improve an existing experience. Some briefs need focused support for a short period; others involve a longer collaboration with our studio team.
Our work spans platforms such as Shopify and Sanity alongside custom front-end development. Tell us which technologies you know well and the kinds of problems you like to solve. We value sound technical decisions, careful implementation and a close eye on the finished interface.
What you’ll bring
Relevant live projects or code samples that show what you can build, with a clear account of your own contribution.
A strong grounding in HTML, CSS and JavaScript, with care for responsive behaviour, accessibility and performance.
The ability to scope your work, deliver reliably and flag dependencies or technical risks before they become blockers.
Clear communication, a collaborative approach to design and feedback, and confidence working with Git and an existing codebase.
Working together
We’re based in Auckland and welcome enquiries from freelancers working remotely. Share your location, time zone and preferred working setup so we can discuss what suits each project.
Availability can vary from occasional support to a more sustained engagement. Before any work begins, we’ll agree the scope, timing, rate and how we’ll work together.
About New Territory
New Territory is an independent digital studio working with clients around the world. We design, build and support considered websites and digital platforms, working closely with clients and creative partners.
What to send
Links to relevant websites or projects, with a note on the technologies you used and what you were responsible for. Include a GitHub profile or code samples if you have work you can share.
Your earliest start date and typical availability in hours or days per week, including any upcoming commitments.
Where you’re based, your time zone and whether you prefer remote, hybrid or on-site collaboration.
Your day rate and currency, plus a short introduction to the work you’re interested in.
How to apply
Send your details to [email protected] with the subject “Front-End Developer — Open Application — [Your Name]”.
We’ll review your introduction and use it to consider you for future freelance projects. If there’s a suitable brief, we’ll contact you to discuss the work, check your availability and agree next steps. Sending an application does not commit you to taking on a project.
