The opportunity
We’d like to meet independent designers who could bring a fresh perspective and thoughtful craft to New Territory’s digital projects.
This is an ongoing expression of interest for freelance collaboration. We may not have a brief ready when you get in touch, and applying does not guarantee an assignment. It gives us a chance to understand your work and contact you when a project looks like a good fit.
Projects you could join
Depending on the brief, you could help explore creative directions, map user journeys, develop wireframes and prototypes, or design responsive websites and e-commerce experiences.
We’re interested in designers who connect a distinctive visual approach with clear, useful interactions. Experience creating components, design systems and considered handovers is welcome. Tell us where you do your best work, whether that’s leading a concept or helping a team resolve the details.
What you’ll bring
A portfolio that shows your design judgement, attention to detail and contribution to the finished work.
Confidence working independently, taking responsibility for agreed deliverables and raising questions or risks early.
Clear communication and a collaborative approach to feedback, with the ability to work closely with designers, developers and clients.
Comfort working with Figma or comparable design tools and explaining the thinking behind your decisions.
Working together
We’re based in Auckland and welcome enquiries from freelancers working remotely. Share your location, time zone and preferred working setup so we can discuss what suits each project.
Availability can vary from occasional support to a more sustained engagement. Before any work begins, we’ll agree the scope, timing, rate and how we’ll work together.
About New Territory
New Territory is an independent digital studio working with clients around the world. We design, build and support considered websites and digital platforms, working closely with clients and creative partners.
What to send
A portfolio or website with a few relevant projects. Briefly describe your role in each, the problem you were solving and the parts you delivered.
Your earliest start date and typical availability in hours or days per week, including any upcoming commitments.
Where you’re based, your time zone and whether you prefer remote, hybrid or on-site collaboration.
Your day rate and currency, plus a short introduction to the work you’re interested in.
How to apply
Send your details to [email protected] with the subject “Interface Designer — Open Application — [Your Name]”.
We’ll review your introduction and use it to consider you for future freelance projects. If there’s a suitable brief, we’ll contact you to discuss the work, check your availability and agree next steps. Sending an application does not commit you to taking on a project.
