Senior Front-End Developer

New Territory is looking for a Senior Front-End Developer to turn ambitious designs into seamless, scalable and accessible websites.

You’ll own technical delivery from planning through to launch and ongoing optimisation. Working closely with our designers and strategists, you’ll bring interfaces to life with careful attention to detail, clean implementation and dependable performance.

We’re looking for someone who can think beyond an individual task: question an approach, anticipate challenges and make sound technical decisions that support the wider project. You’ll be comfortable building new experiences and improving existing websites as our clients’ website needs evolve.

Take ownership of front-end delivery, translating designs into responsive websites with precise layouts, considered interactions and consistent behaviour across devices.

Plan technical approaches, identify dependencies and communicate estimates, risks and trade-offs early.

Build and maintain websites using Shopify, Sanity or comparable platforms, creating reusable components and manageable content structures.

Work closely with designers to resolve technical questions and preserve the intent of the design throughout development.

Apply best practices for accessibility, performance and technical SEO, including testing across browsers and devices.

Support clients’ websites by implementing new features, integrations and improvements to accessibility, performance and user journeys.

Maintain clear, well-structured code, contribute to code reviews and document decisions that help others work confidently on a project.

Test releases, investigate issues and take responsibility for resolving problems through to completion.

Four or more years of professional web development experience, with a strong body of completed work.

A fluent grasp of the primary front-end languages: HTML, CSS and JavaScript.

Practical experience with Shopify or Sanity, or comparable platforms with skills you can readily transfer.

Confidence working with Git and GitHub, and using Figma to interpret designs and collaborate with designers.

A strong understanding of responsive development, semantic markup, accessibility and web performance.

The ability to troubleshoot independently and explain technical decisions clearly to colleagues and clients.

An organised approach to delivery, with proactive communication and close attention to detail.

Experience with Shopify Liquid, React or other modern JavaScript frameworks, PHP, GSAP or Webflow. Familiarity with generative and agentic development tools, including reviewing and validating their output, is also a plus.

New Territory is an independent digital studio working with clients around the world. We design, build and support considered websites and digital platforms, working closely with clients and creative partners.

This role is based at our Auckland studio, New Zealand.

This is a permanent, full-time role of 40 hours per week. Remuneration will reflect your skills, experience and the scope of the role.
